The
School Choir
George
Campbell has a large group of dedicated learners who sing in the
choir. They perform at special school events such as Speech Day
and provide us with enthusiastic and up-beat presentations.
Debating
Our
school participates in a very full debating programme both at junior
and senior level. We are members of the Durban Coastal Debating
League and have done very well in recent years. Our senior side
is particularly strong and our junior debaters are showing promise.
We
have been part of the new debating process since its introduction
to the schools and our debaters find it much more fun. It allows
them far more freedom to explore all aspects of their debating t
Interact
Club
The
Interact Club consists of a small group of dedicated learners who
have enthusiastically participated in activities aimed at helping
the community.
We
have continued, as a club, to take small meaningful steps in our
quest to make the world a better place and can only succeed by joining
hands with each other.
Durban Youth Council
Our school has always had three Grade 11/12 representatives on The
Durban Youth Council. This is a forum which allows learners to become
involved in their wider community and also allows them to interact
with learners from many different schools.
Public
Speaking
We
participate in several public speaking competitions during the year.
These include the Rotary/Daily News Team Speaking Competition as
well as the competition run by the Speech and Drama Guild of South
Africa. Entry to the latter competition is open to any learner who
wishes to try his/her skills against those of learners from other
schools.
We
participate annually in the SA Model United Nations Debate and have
worked with various schools in this competition. The learners are
offered a very different debating exercise and thoroughly enjoy
the experience.
We
also run a Public Speaking Course for our Grade 11 learners as part
of preparing them for leadership in the school. This course is based
loosely on the Toastmasters’ Youth Leadership Program and
learners are very keen to participate.
Afrikaans
Public Speaking
Public
speaking is a wonderul opportunity for learners to learn a new skill
and have lots of fun. For the past four years we have entered teams
in the ATKV Afrikaans Public Speaking competition in both the first
language and second language categories.
Durban Youth Council
Our
school has always had three Grade 11/12 representatives on The Durban
Youth Council. This is a forum which allows learners to become involved
in their wider community and also allows them to interact with learners
from many different schools.
Spoken
Word (Poetry)
This
is Campbell’s very own poetry club. It is titled “Spoken
Word” because we recite words that speak to the mind, soul
and spirit, sharing each others fairytales and life stories through
poetry. This is where Campbell is growing the next generation of
Shakespeares in the spoken word community.
